World Class Weekend

💛 World class Weekend 🖤

As a team we support all of our members in anything they do whether it is fighting, work accomplishments or personal achievements. We love to help our members reach their full potential and we are really proud to announce that our member Melissa Neill is competing at the Pureelite World Championships in Kent on Saturday! 🙏🏻

Melissa Neill has worked her socks off to get into incredible shape ahead of this weekend’s championships and we are fully supporting her through her adventure on the world stage. Here are some words from the lady herself: 🧠

“I’ve been body building for 3 years solidly and decided to take my passion and addiction to the next level by competing in body building competitions in 2019. I compete in the category bikini masters over 45. This year on 21 Sept I competed at NFMUK and placed 3rd at my first ever completion. The following weekend I placed 2nd at UFE shows Europe, was awarded elite status and invited to the finals. I decided then to compete in one more competition this year which is Pure Elite. I had 6 weeks to progress from my previous competition and have made a really good improvement in muscle development and ‘getting shredded’. I have been in the gym most days and very often twice a day. But that’s not the most difficult part – it’s the dieting! I’m looking forward to a massive meal and cake after the show hopefully with a medal round my neck. Thank you to the epic team for you support so far. I’m very new to the gym but love it!”

As you can see, Melissa has taken her dreams & passion and turned it into a reality with hard work and dedication! 💪🏻

Melissa, on behalf of our entire community we wish you all the very best! Go and bring home that title 🔥🙏🏻💛🖤

Daz- Gone but Never Forgotten

Today we learned of the terrible news that Daz Ellis passed away after a brave battle with motor-neurone disease. Even up until recent months, Daz would show his face at tournaments and support his fighters whilst battling with this aggressive illness. This is a testament to how he chose to fight, a warrior through and through.

As a club, we attended the tournaments put on to support Daz and cherish the memories we had with such a brave warrior. We hope that Mr Ellis is now at peace and wish that all of the NSKA club continue their martial arts journey in the memory of such a prominent figure on our circuit.

On behalf of all of the students, coaches, parents and members of EPIC Martial Arts we would like to pass our condolences to Christine and all of Daz’s family at this sad time.

What a great weekend we had at the EPIC Open at Gordano school, Portishead. Fighters from our ranks met with fighters from BBBA, Terror Squad, Jamie Woodlands academy, Bristol Martial Arts and Body Focus. As always we welcomed the other coaches in and are thankful for their participation at our events. With 60 divisions to get through and roughly 300 fights the day was a busy one but it was a great success.

The officials made sure that the day went as smoothly as possible and the coaches kept their fighters in toe for the event to progress as it did. A huge congratulations to all the medal winners and a massive thank you to all who took part. Also a thank you to all the spectators for a brilliant atmosphere where everybody came out and thrived with the right circumstances around them.

The food went down well and the hog roast was, as always, popular!

We will see you all on the next one!

First comp of 2016

Ladies and gentlemen, As you know we begin our competition circuit for 2016 on Saturday (a week from today) as we host the little dragons and kids beginner inter-club at HQ! This is the perfect introduction to sparring and we expect to see everybody who attends the sparring academy who is a little dragon or […]

Epic Martial Arts have taken another step forward for 2016 by landing the exclusive rights to teach the UKs only government endorsed self defence course for children.

MANTIS means manage any nasty trouble in society and is an 8 week course based around simple movements and breakaways without any striking or unnecessary force. The techniques work on adults just like they work on children of the same size and age as those who participate.

A few weeks ago EPIC’s own Andy Cleeves, Matt Roberts and Jane Lewis underwent a full day of training for this and have been accepted and licensed to teach the course that is working alongside the anti-bullying alliance.

The premier course will launch on Friday 5th February and will take place at the Fitness Hub (EPIC Portishead HQ) gym between the hours of 5-6pm. The next 3 classes of the course will take place at the same time each Friday on the subsequent weeks and then there is a one week break while we are in Dublin for the Irish open. The course then concludes on April 1st as long as the team don’t travel to Milan for the points cup. So from the 5th February, the following dates are course dates:

Feb: 5, 12, 19, 26
Mar: 11, 18, 25

Apr: 1st (tentative due to international competition)

The costs are as follows:
£49 for Existing EPIC members
£79 for non EPIC members

Both price plans give you the MANTIS DVD (RRP £19.99) and 8 hours tuition. You will be expected to practice and follow the DVD each day between sessions so that you are fluent with the moves.
